Despite him having such extensive array of property and assets, and how he was capable of getting them being totally unknown, we can not have any legal doubts against him being elected as President. He is totally legit as per the laws of the land and just as importantly he is the democratically elected leader of the country.

Those who have any doubts should know that there the Constitution of Pakistan has a very clear method for the President selection. The National Assembly, the provincial assemblies, and the Senate form the electoral college for the president selection. Whichever candidate get a majority of votes in the electoral college is declared president. Zardari is from the PPP which is the majority party and as we shall see has the support of a major portion of those eligible to vote.
Sadly, all cases of corruption. murder and malpractice which were to be against him have been dropped by an illegal judicial system. So his legality is under no doubt. What is most important is what his actions will be when the country is in such dire straits. The economy is in doldrums, the security situation is terrible with the US doing ground incursions well into the country and even commiting war crimes and killing civilians, there is a huge energy crisis, as well as a food crisis, inflation is out of control, we shall just wait and see if he can do anything or the poor shall continue suffering.

Its very sad to see that pakistan has elected a person who is widely known to be corrupt. If i am not wrong was he not the one called "Mr. 20%" during teh rule of Late Mrs. Bhutto?

Now pak has itself handed over its reigns to a corrupt politician and soon Nawaz will take over the PMs chair then we will have PM and Presendent accused of bribery and corruption in their own country.

The country is going through an economic trumoil. Share markets are going down like a comet and Rs. is taking a free fall.

Are we missing "someone" who brought back Pakistan from the brink of bankruptcy when he took over from Nawaz some years back?

Most of the allegations on Nawaz Sharif are political in nature. Those against Zardari were never proved but he did serve 11 years in prison, but i do admit my gut feel is he is very corrupt.

The economic condition is horrendous, check my next blog entry for that. I wouldnt want no Musharaff here, the economic upturn had more to do with US support and aid than his actions. The PM during his time, Shaukat Aziz, the citibanker had a big hand in looting the country's earnings and a lot of capital flight. How often do u hear of imported PM's, he is now back at Citibank.

what surprises me is that some people actually believe that he is president because the majority of the voters elected him. since when, especially in recent times, have pakistani leaders ever been "elected" by the pakistanis? it shouldn't be called an election when everyone's sold out.

well. the thing is that the way the democratic system works and sadly greed overwhelms the patriotism of our leaders. but nevertheless they our are leaders and we are responsible for having them in place. if we really wanted to we would replace them with others or if no one is available...ourselves. they may not know it but its all in thier own control
